The Accidents Claims Journal founded by Late Shri Nitya Nand Dhawan, Advocate, in 1966 is running fifty-first year of its publication. We have so far published 107 volumes—one volume each year up to 1985, two volumes each year from 1986 to 2000, three volumes each year from 2001 to 2005 and from 2006 we are publishing four volumes per year. In order to complete the coverage prior to 1966, for the convenience of our valued subscribers, we had published important judgments pronounced during the period 1958 to 1965 in a separate volume. A supplement volume was also published in 1982 reporting those judgments which were felt important but could not be accommodated in the regular volumes of 1981 and 1982. Keeping in mind the time constraints of our valued subscribers and practicing lawyers and the increasing volume of judgments, we brought out a consolidated Digest covering cumulative index of judgments reported in the Journal during the period from 1958 to December 2000. Thereafter we have published a Digest to cover the judgments reported in the Journal during the subsequent period from January 2001 to December 2010. Cases have been digested both statute-wise and subject-wise with multiple cross-references and cross-citations. Entries have been arranged under the various heads in a way to make the Digest more useful and purposeful.
ACJONLINE.IN has been designed on the guidelines of Digest which was much appreciated and well received by our worthy subscribers. This website has advanced search features for fast and desired results. Our goal with this new product is to provide our subscribers easier and efficient way to search judgments/case-law.
Late Shri Nitya Nand Dhawan, Advocate
Founder-Editor of the Journal
Shri Nitya Nand Dhawan was born at Lyallpur (now in Pakistan) on May 22, 1928. He graduated from Government College, Lyallpur and passed his LL.B. Examination in 1949 from Delhi University. He joined the Bar at Delhi in 1953 and put in his heart and soul in the profession and very soon carved out a place for himself. He dedicated his services for the amelioration of the condition of the Bar. The dignity of the Bar was uppermost in his heart. Soon after joining the Bar, he was elected to look after the affairs of Bar Library, and was later elected as Secretary of the Bar in the year 1969 and was re-elected in 1970 and again elected in 1972. He did not seek election in 1971.
The miraculous and historic changes brought about by Shri Nitya Nand Dhawan in building up chambers of the lawyers and the facelifting of the entire premises is by itself an evidence of the earnestness of his desire to raise the prestige of the Bar. As a result of his tireless efforts, put in by him in the three terms during which he occupied the office of Secretary, the lawyers chambers give a well-planned and organised shape. In order to improve the general position of the Bar, he founded a Sports Club within the court precincts and had even proposed to make a swimming pool within the area with a view to make the compound a healthy resort for the members of the Bar and Bench.
He had a command on the subject dealt with by him and was respected by the Bench and also by the Counsel opposing him because he was thorough with all the facts and legal aspects and he was also known for his great persuasive ability and zeal. He put force in his arguments and was always respected by the Courts. In Courts he was a great fighter for the cause of his clients. He was always prepared to take up cudgels even with the highest courage and bravery with a view to enhance the dignity of the profession and the members of the Bar.
His friends found him always sincere and helpful even at the cost of his own convenience, physical or monetary. His noble qualities of head and heart attracted every person who came in touch with him. He was of deeply religious mind. Everybody who had an occasion to meet him, whether in the profession or social life, spoke very highly of his integrity, ability and sincerity.
Almighty has taken his body away from our midst but his soul and virtues will always be a torchlight for us, the Members of the Bar and his friends.
May his soul rest in peace.
